Azurite and Malachite with Possibly Gibbsite
Morenci Mine, Copper Mountain Mining District, Greenlee County
Brilliant blue azurite crystals in 20 cavities (vugs). Also shows veins of green malachite. The vugs display a white mineral underneath the azurite crystals. We have seen similar pieces where the white was identified as Gibbsite. However we have not tested this piece. The matrix is a rust colored gossan material. A wonderful contrast.
