Description

This is a specimen of very rare Triassic era Chromium Green Petrified Wood, about 200 million years old. It is from an exposed petrified wood forest in what is now known as the Gokwe area of Zimbabwe, Africa. The trees of the forest were engulfed in volcanic ash and slowly petrified into varied types of silica as this element was dissolved and later circulated by waters. The rare green color is due to the presence of chromium. This is a very rare and beautiful specimen, ideal for serious collections. The type of tree is unconfirmed. A lapidarist could cut this piece into slices, slabs or sections. The main face is highly polished.

Green Petrified Wood (Chromium) is extremely rare. See our other listings for similarly rare Arizona Chromium Green Petrified Wood from a single treefall near Winslow Arizona.
