Okenite can be found as white, puff-like inclusions within some specimens of optical calcite. The best-documented locality for this natural association is India. Specifically, optical calcite with okenite inclusions is reported from regions where both minerals naturally form, such as in basaltic volcanic environments commonly found in India.

Okenite itself is most often found lining cavities (vugs) in basalt, typically forming clusters of delicate, fibrous, white crystals that resemble cotton balls. In rare cases, these okenite fibers become enclosed by or occur as inclusions within transparent calcite (optical calcite) crystals—creating unique mineral specimens.

There is no evidence of okenite naturally occurring in optical calcite from the classic Iceland spar (Icelandic) deposits or North American optical calcite deposits. The Indian Deccan Traps (notably regions around Pune and Mumbai) are world-famous for producing both okenite and highly transparent calcite, making this locality the main source for such inclusions.

This specimen is from India.
