Shiva Lingam are egg shaped stones of crypto-crystalline quartz with some impurities. Crypto-crystalline quartz is a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7.
This stone is found in the sacred Indian Narmada River in Onkar Mandhata. Area residents polish these river rocks to better define their famed lingam elongated egg shape. Shiva Lingams can range in size, with pieces being found as tall as 10 feet.
In Hindu culture, the lingam is a representation of the Lord Shiva. In Ancient Sanskrit text, the word Shiva means “sign” or “symbol” which translates to “Shivas Sign”.
